Sailboat journey shared by E-mail with schoolkids

The Chicago Sun Times features a report on a group of elementary school students tracking a world-traveling sailboat crew.

Jake Byl and his crew are sailing around the world on a 42-foot sailboat. This is not a glamorous leisure cruise. Their meals are canned food and they have to fit all their belongings in a duffel bag.

It might be a rough voyage for the crew, but a group of fifth graders at Haines Elementary School are enthralled to be following the journey through E-mail.

The sailboat adventure is part of a program called Reach the World, dedicated to teaching kids about the world through online interaction.
