The 26th Annual Atlantic Rally for Cruisers is set to begin on Sunday, November 20, 2011 out of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Over 235 yachts are expected to make the start, making this year’s ARC the largest transoceanic sailing event. The previous record was set at the 1997 ARC with 235 starters. 2011 should also see the largest-ever fleet of catamarans, with 25 at the start. Those sailing will make their way from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia, 2700nM across the Atlantic.
