Top 10 Best Songs for the Sea

Top 10 Boating Songs

While the snow coated the grass outside my window this past December I longed for the sun, waves and the smell of the ocean. So, I played my favorite summer sailing song and drifted back. There is always that one song that takes you back to a summer day spent on the ocean cruising in your boat. Isn’t there? This got my thinking, thus the theme of this blog post.

What are the Top 10 best songs for the sea?

I’m disappointed that “Come Sail Away” by the Styx was five on this list because it’s top two for me. The chorus continues to ring in my ears. “Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me…”

A new favorite of mine comes in at number three! It’s hard NOT to know the words! Just keep repeating “Daylight come and me wan’ go home” and nine times out of ten you will be singing the right words. Boating is about simplicity and this song is simple enough for all generations to enjoy out on the water.

You can’t have a Top 10 song list without including The Beatles. Yellow Submarine although not technically about a being on a boat but close enough! I love the verse, “as we live a life of ease every one of us has all we need: sky of blue and sea green…” A day on the boat is not complete without this song!
