Even if You Have a GPS for Your Boat, You Still Need a Compass

In the age of GPS units and digital mapping software, using a compass might seem like a needless skill.

According to an article on News-Press.com, the centuries old practice of compass-reading is still necessary for any boater.

While a compass is not pinpoint accurate as a GPS, it does not use electricity either and serves as a handy backup system if you lose power out on the water.

We want to hear from you. Was there ever a time you had to use your compass as a last resort to find your way back to land? Do you prefer to use a standard compass over a GPS unit? Leave a commment and tell us.
