The race of the solar power boats

Will future boats use the sun for power the same way sailboats use wind?

Solar powered boats will be racing at the Solar Cup 2007, being held at the Lake Skinner reservoir near Temecula, California.

The boats were built by local high school students as an opportunity to learn about math and science.

Gazzettes.com reports that…

The boats they build have 16-feet-long hulls, weigh about 50 pounds empty and seat one skipper. They are equipped with solar collection panels that have a maximum output of 320 watts.
